Mining Work Wear Providing Protection

The mining industry has a reputation for being a risky business with various health hazards that are quite serious. Wearing such healthy risks at the workplace can be quite harmful towards health and lead to severe health issues in future. To avoid all these it is important for a miner to protect themselves with the right uniforms.
Following are some of the risks involved in mining industry which can be avoided by wearing the right mining uniforms:
  • Whole Body Vibration: Vibration in the entire body is a slow forming physical hazard that can occur to miners that work with heavy machinery. Whole body vibration can be caused either by working on jumbo operators or by sending a lot of time sitting on machinery. Some forms of vibration are ok, but they can become dangerous when they involve uneven surfaces.
  • Coal Dust: Inhaling coal dust is one of the most common concerns for miners. Ongoing inhalation of coal dust can lead to ‘black lungs’. Even though measures to prevent black lung have been legally enforced for many years now, but there are few cases that keeps coming up every now and then. Wearing a protective mining work wear can minimize the risk of inhaling coal dust to a certain extent.
  • Thermal Stress: Thermal risk is the most common health risk a miner comes across. Mining environments are very humid and hot which over time can cause thermal stress for miners and other workers. Overexposure of these can lead to fatigue and distressed in the body which can in future cause a heat stroke or serious health problems.
However, mining doesn’t have to be unsafe. With the introduction of strict protocol, safety legislation and use of safety equipment in the industry the fatality rate has dropped over time. Although the goal of zero harm in the mining industry is yet to be achieved. The set standard in the mining company continue to strive towards it. Understanding and being aware of your environment is the first step to preventing illness or injury in the mining industry. Many other risky health issues can be avoided and minimised by wearing the right uniforms.
