Lab Coats: An Essential Healthcare Uniform For Professionals In The Health Industry

Can we recognize a doctor walking in a crowd? Or on a street? It’s different, if we know him/her. But if a person is wearing a lab coat, we instantly label the person as a medical professional or a person working in a laboratory. A lab coat can without any doubt, be termed as a healthcare uniform, with its own set of medical uses. A laboratory coat is usually worn by doctors while working with or nearby hazardous chemicals, biological agents and radioactive materials. There lab coats are necessary uniforms for doctors, X-Ray technicians and lab assistants. These coats are also important as they help in identifying the individual’s role and also protect their clothes. There are different type of lab coats available, let’s take a look:

Counter lab coats: This type of lab coats fits like a jacket. 30 inches length and three buttons in most cases, this lab coat similar to a jacket, close the front. A breast pocket on the left to keep pen, pencils and mobiles, this jacket type coat comes with two pockets on the lower side. Manufactured using cotton, twill, poly-cotton and lining, counter lab coats are worn by medical assistants and clerical staff who are responsible to deal with patient inquiries and visitors.

Dental lab coats: There is no concrete reason behind them being called as dental lab coats. Any medical professional can wear these coats. Even though these coats are well fitted, still these coats are roomy and breathable. The length makes them reach mid-thigh and the two pockets at the front along with a chest pocket with a pencil stitch, makes enough space for keeping small and important things. The side slits give an easy access to the pant pockets. A slit at the back makes space for easy movement.

Colored casual lab coats: Most medical institutions allow the medical residents to wear white lab coats as uniforms. As we all know that white laboratory coats get dirty very easily. With the help of a colored lab coat, stains and spills can be kept hidden while maintaining the germ-free environment of the facility. Such coats also help in providing a fresh and positive vibe to the atmosphere in contrast to the Grey atmosphere of a medical institution.
