Dressed to Impress: The Wonders of Wearing a Uniform to Work

Imagine a workplace in which every member has a feeling of 'belongingness' to the institution. What would the productivity and job satisfaction be there? No prizes for guessing. That would be an ideal win-win situation for both the employer and the employee. Many measures are taken to achieve such an environment - a particular dress code included. But uniforms can actually serve many other purposes, besides just identifying an employee with an organization:

1. Appropriate employee uniforms create a professional business image that attract and help retain customers.

2. Uniforms displaying corporate logos and colours help in promoting a company or brand.

3. Work uniforms worn in public serves free advertising, promoting a company’s products and services.

4. Uniforms also provide protection. Flame resistant (FR) workwear, for example, helps in preventing injuries caused by accidental electrical arc flashes or flash fires. High visibility uniforms reduce the chances of workers being hit by motorized vehicles.

5. Uniforms immediately help in identifying who does or does not belong in specific work areas or on job sites; thus increasing its security.

6. Healthcare uniforms and also uniforms made specifically for the food industry prevent cross-contamination.

7. Uniforms help in fostering team spirit.

8. Employer-provided uniforms, provided as part of a Rental Program, eliminate employee laundering time and expense.

9. Company representatives can be easily identified by their uniforms, who may then be approached for purchasing and other information. This helps in improving overall customer service.

10. Work uniforms help instill a sense of pride and responsibility towards the organization and can convert employees into “brand ambassadors” outside the actual workplace.
